Obituaries
John Heenan Wilson, age 73 of Newton passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born December 30, 1944 in McDowell County, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Ernest and Mildred Olivia Runyan Wilson. John was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover and previously, faithfully served in the Agape Class at Tri-City Baptist Church. He was a US Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Post 48. He worked for the US Postal Service in Hickory for 32 years. John was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Highways and Hedges. He enjoyed competing in the Senior Olympics, local bowling league and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 infant children and a sister, Sharon Lynn. John will be greatly missed.
He is survived by:
Wife of 50 years: Linda Lingerfelt Wilson of the home
2 Daughters: Amy Wilson Moore and husband Jay of Maiden and Jill Wilson Lopez and husband Cristian of Woodstock, GA
Grandson: Zachary Wilson Moore
2 Sisters: Jan Jones and husband Ervel of Statesville and Roberta Meek and husband Joe of New Hope, VA
Numerous Nieces and Nephews
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover with Dr. Ed Yount and Rev. Ervel Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
